Pui Ying Waverley Chinese School is one of the Chinese schools run by Pui Ying Christian Services Society (non-profit). It was founded in 1983 and incorporated into the family of Pui Ying in 2012.

Pui Ying Waverley Chinese School offers Cantonese and Mandarin Conversation classes at all levels: Pre-school Level 1-3, Elementary Level 1-6, and Secondary Level 1-5 classes. Students learn Chinese skills in various aspects: listening, speaking, reading, recognition and writing. Through the dialogue learning methodology, students can learn Chinese language in a more fun and practical studying environment.

All our Chinese teachers are enthusiastic and experienced in Chinese teaching. They are from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. They put great efforts in cultivating students’ moral standard and behaviour shaping. Students are taught to promote Chinese culture characteristics, and other ethnic cultures and practices so as to achieve a multicultural understanding and tolerance.

To tie in with the local characteristics of children's learning, teachers also adopt various kinds of teaching methodologies so as to enhance our students’ Chinese skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, e.g., story-telling, games, activities, craft works, audio-visual aids and worksheets. It aims at providing a happy, relaxing, interesting and pleasant learning environment for our students in mastering their Chinese language.

Students are motivated to participate in various types of Chinese-relating activities and contests which are organized by Pui Ying Christian Services Society or other external organizations, e.g., calligraphy contest, coloring contest, speech recital contest, …etc.. Periodically, students’ good works are also posted in the Sing Tao Daily and Pui Ying Newsletter/magazines, to enhance students’ Chinese language skills and build up their self-confidence in using Chinese language. So, students gain more exposure and experience in practising Chinese, together with building up of their self-confidence by joining in all these activities and contests.

In 2015, two new learning classes are open: Combined Fun Creative Art & Craft Class and Mathematics Enhancement Class, and Adult Conversation Class. The Art and Mathematic class provides a good opportunity to students using Cantonese/Mandarin to explore their knowledge in Mathematics and Arts together. The classes are conducted in English and Chinese languages. It gives students more chances to practise Chinese language while enjoying their interesting Mathematics and Arts learning.

At this stage, overseas students’ major learning focus should be "moral education" and "oral/listening education". Especially students’ moral education, it has to be implemented at their early age. Both family and school education has a profound impact on students’ moral cultivation. So, starting from 2014, Pui Ying Waverley Chinese School also adds a new "moral education" training session in each Chinese lesson, allowing our students to learn both Chinese language and good moral behaviour. Through this moral education curriculum, our Chinese teachers can train and strengthen students’ awareness of the correct moral virtue and practices: politeness, orderly manner, social morality, …etc. High moral standard is, in fact, what students should learn and pursue as a lifetime of wealth.

There is no shortcut route to master the Chinese language. Only with the joint effort and encouragement from all dear parents and our Chinese school, it fosters the young generation to master good Chinese language skills and its culture. It also helps to build up their good moral standard and best behaviour.
